Questions We Hear a Lot

What is my move going to run?

It rides on two things: how much you are moving and how tight the access is. A two-mover crew with a truck starts at $125/hr, and you get an itemized written estimate before we pick up a single box. Want a hard ceiling? Request a flat cap and whatever you sign becomes the most your bill can reach. Out-of-state jobs are priced on the weight and the miles.

I’m in a Baltimore rowhouse with narrow stairs. Can you handle it?

That is our specialty. The rows in Federal Hill, Canton, Fells Point, Locust Point, and Hampden come with marble stoops, formstone fronts, narrow doorways, and steep straight-run stairs. We measure the tight turns, pad the rails and jambs, and hoist or hand-carry anything that will not make the bend.

Do you handle base and PCS moves?

Yes, and often. Anne Arundel County runs on the bases, so we move plenty of Fort Meade, NSA, and Naval Academy households. We work around your PCS timeline and paperwork, clear the base-access checks the gate requires, and can full-pack a government or self-arranged move. Ask about our discount for active-duty and veterans.

There is no driveway and parking is tight. Is that a problem?

Not at all, we take care of it on most city and Annapolis moves. Give us the block when you book and we arrange the truck spot, pull a temporary no-parking permit wherever the city calls for one, and trim the carry to whatever the street allows. Our crew rolls in expecting to load from the curb, not a driveway.

When does the clock start?

The clock begins the moment the crew gets to work at your door, not when we roll out of the yard. Past the first hour we charge to the minute, so an hour and ten minutes bills as exactly that, never a rounded-up two hours. We spell out the crew rate and how travel time counts before anyone lifts a box.

Do you take a deposit?

Just a small refundable one to lock in your date, and it gets applied as a credit against your final total, so you never actually lose it. Give us a couple of days’ notice on a cancellation and every cent comes back. Your booking spells all of it out from the get-go.

How and when do I pay?

Payment comes due only after the job wraps, not a minute sooner. Every major card works here, and so do check and cash. You go over the final total with the crew and sign off on it right at your door before they head out.

Are tips expected?

Never, and nothing gets slipped onto the invoice. When a crew really goes the extra mile, most folks hand over ten to fifteen percent for them to split, cash or card, though it is entirely your call.

Is there anything you won’t load?

Not much, and what there is comes down to safety and the law: propane, gasoline, paint, and anything flammable, plus ammunition, houseplants, food that will spoil, and pets. Have something huge, heavy, or worth a fortune? Mention it at booking so the right crew and gear turn up.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. K&M Movers holds Maryland household-goods authority and full insurance, and your job stays with our own crew the whole way, with no broker skimming a piece in the middle. Happy to share the authority numbers and the coverage details, just say the word and we will go over your valuation choices before anything is final.

What if a piece gets damaged?

Careful padding makes it uncommon, but if a piece does take a hit we note it right there and open the claim that same afternoon. Ahead of the job we run through released against full-value coverage, so you know precisely how a claim would play out.

How far ahead should I book?

For a typical local job, a week or two of lead time does the trick. The end of the month and the summer PCS rush book solid, so aim for three or four weeks in those stretches, and pad it a bit for a Saturday. Last-minute slots surface now and then, though, so a quick call never hurts.

Do you handle pianos, gun safes, and pool tables?

We do, with a crew that tackles them week in and week out. Whether it is an upright or a grand, a loaded gun safe, a slate pool table, an heirloom, or a framed canvas, each one goes on the proper board or dolly under the right straps and pads, and we build a custom crate whenever a piece calls for it.

Will you handle the packing?

Whatever scope suits you. Need the entire house boxed up? Consider it handled. Only the kitchen and the art? That works too. We show up with sturdy cartons and paper, label each box by its room, and will unpack you at the new place once the truck is empty.

Do you move out of state?

We handle those, keeping your load on one truck with the same crew from origin to destination. Nobody brokers it out, nothing gets shifted into a stranger’s trailer at some depot, and you get a delivery window you can genuinely plan around.

Do you have storage?

We do. A short stretch between closings or a run of months until the next place is ready, either way your things sit in a clean, locked space with every item logged. Our crew moves it in and back out, so you are never renting a truck twice.

I’m moving to the Baltimore area from out of town. Can you help?

For sure, a solid share of our jobs are people arriving in the area, many of them PCSing in to Fort Meade or the Academy. We line up the delivery window, greet you at the new place, and sort out the parking, the stoop, or the base pass on our end. Your things ride on our truck, with our crew, and never get sold off to whoever bids the lowest that week.

Can I move or cancel my date?

Absolutely. Move your date or call it off with two days’ notice or more, and your deposit lands back with you in full. Your booking lists every condition in plain language, so nothing is left to guesswork.
